WHO WE ARE

WORKERS OF THE WORLD TUNE IN!
Introducing "Building Bridges: Your Community & Labor Report"

Our beat is the labor front, broadly defined, both geographically and conceptually. We examine the world of work and workers on the job as well as where they live. We examine the issues that affect their everyday lives, with a particular sensitivity towards human rights abuses, environmental concerns and the U.S. drive for global domination. We record their global struggles and provide analysis of their efforts to empower themselves and transform society to provide greater democratic, human, social, political and economic rights. Each program consists of feature stories, generally interviews, within a historical context, often accompanied by sound from demonstrations, rallies or conferences, and complemented and enhanced by poetry and instrumental or vocal -- people's culture.

Over the years Building Bridges has produced a weekly one hour program, Mondays from 7-8 PM EST, covering local, national and international labor and community issues over radio WBAI-Pacifica 99.5 FM in New York. We also produce a ten minute weekly labor report heard on WBAI's morning show, "Wakeup Call" at 7:45 AM EST.

We are now prepared to expand our boundaries and are pleased to announce the debut of our international program, 'Building Bridges: Your Community & Labor Report, "World Edition";. Building Bridges will distribute a weekly, half-hour labor/community affairs program. Building Bridges, World Edition will debut the week of September 2, 2002, Labor Day. We are distributing copies of a pilot program to stimulate and encourage you to pick up and air our program regularly over your airwaves. Our Building Bridges pilot features a conversation with Dr. Hanan Ashrawi, a world renowned champion of Palestinian human rights, discussing the impact of the Israeli occupation, and Jazz impresario Hugh Masekela, actors Danny Glover and Harry Belafonte speaking about economic development in "South Africa. Please call Ken Nash or Mimi Rosenberg for for a complimentary copy. Help us build bridges.

We will be distributing Building Bridges World Edition on the Internet from "Radio for All" www.radio4.net and the Workers' Independent News Service, www.laborradio.org. We hope that we will soon be downlinked from Pacifica's KU satellite. Where necessary, we will mail our CD's. Our regular edition of Building Bridges can be heard weekly over WBAI, 99.5 FM, Monday, 7-8 PM EST or streaming over the Internet at www.2600.com/offthehook/hot23.ram or Wednesday, 8-9 PM EST at www.wbix.org.
